Folder shield

How do I know if an executable blocked by foldershield is safe. It is blocking 2 programs that are supposed to be Win10 .exe files - HxTsr and SkypeHost.

Hi @jamessmith3015 and welcome to Trend Micro Community!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention and apologies if you had any troubles with the program.

Folder Shield is the latest feature from the Trend Micro Security programs as a response to the growing threat of ransomware infection. It aims to protect all your personal files to be accessed by other programs installed on the computer. This way, you can prevent any program from configuring and encrypting the protected files on the protected folder.

We understand that this protection may sometimes block a safe program as well, and one way for you to know if the program that the Trend Micro has blocked is a safe program, you may try searching on the Internet regarding on the details of this program so you will know if this is safe or not.

With regards to the HxTsr.exe and SkypeHost.exe, it seems that these programs are both from the Microsoft which means it is safe.

HxTsr.exe is a Microsoft Outlook file while the SkypeHost.exe is a program from the Microsoft Skype.

If you wish to add these to the Trusted Program List for the Folder Shield, you may simply follow the steps below:

1. Open the Trend Micro main console.
2. Click Data.
3. Click Configure beside the Folder Shield.
4. Click Trusted Program List link (highlighted in blue).
5. Click Add and then click Browse. Search for the program you want that can access files protected by Folder Shield, then click OK.
6. Click Done to save the changes.

Note: If you wish to remove a program on the Trusted Program list, tick the box of the program, then click Remove.
