Trend Micro Maximum Security slowing down my whole Desktop

I'm finding that Trend Micro is slowing down every aspect of my PC experience (opening email, printing, searching WEB page, opening apps etc) to the point where I am switching it off just to do stuff. When I exit Trend Micro the PC response time is back to normal. I have tried various troubleshooting tips (exit trend Micro then restart it / Stop services, delete tmp files, restart services using the troubleshooting tool) but the problem persists.  When I switch to MS Defender I have no issue with performance.

CPU usage is normal and the Trend Micro Anti Malware is at only 1-2%. No spiking in usgae.

I'm on version 17.8 up to date

W11 Home version 10.0.22631

12th Gen i7-12700F

B660M GAMING AC DDR4 PCI-E 5.0

16GB RAM DDR4

SSD 512 GB

I've noticed other users have posted about the same issue with no resolution.

Hi @rickmeneguzzo ,

Yes currently we are aware of the issue already.

You can try to troubleshoot the issue for now and try the steps below:

Restart Trend Micro Components
1. Open Diagnostic Toolkit
2. Click (C) Uninstall Tab and Click Stop Components
3. On Step 2 Click Delete Now to delete security update files
4. On Step 3 Click Delete Now to delete Trend Micro Proxy files
5. Click Start Components and monitor the issue for around 10-15 mins

Let me know if it works.

As I mentioned in my post above, I did those exact steps yesterday, it didn't work and I was still experiencing the poor performance issue.

I shut down the PC last night and re-started the PC this morning. So far performance has been fine but it seems that at some stage during the day Trend Micro starts slowing down the desktop.

The slow performance has started again. I can't use anything on my PC as its all so slow. Trend Micro is acting like a virus.

I got the following error message in Event  Viewer:

Is there a way to turn MS Defender On without uninstalling Trend Micro? I tried Exiting TM and stopping all components but I couldn't start Defender cause "You're using other antivirus providers". I used the advice here https://en.community.trendmicro.com/conversations/pc-security/can-i-switch-windows-defender-back-on-temporarily-if-i-exit-trend-micro-max-security/60f6e74d1cdbc359aa4754ee but it didn't work.

I've been using TM for 20 years and this is the worse I've yet seen it behave. I'm seriously considering canceling my subscription.

let me ask the question another way. Will Defender automatically switch back on if I uninstall TM? If not, what do I have to do to get Defender to switch back on?

Hi @rickmen,

To successfully enable Windows Defender Firewall without uninstalling Trend Micro Security, please ensure that Trend Micro Security is turned off. Running two antivirus programs concurrently is not recommended, as it may cause performance issues.

To turn off Trend Micro Security, follow the steps provided in this link.

To enable Microsoft Defender Firewall, follow the steps from this link.

Our dedicated team is already investigating this issue and we will provide an update once the fix is available for you to get your Trend Micro protection turned on again.

The Microsoft Defender firewall link returns a "Page not found"

BTW - I'm talking about Defender real time protection not the firewall, which is already set to ON.
