Hi @melissahankins8,

Great move on prioritizing your device's security! Your proactive stance contributes to a safer digital experience.

Here are some insights for your inquiry:

Firewall Configuration: Trend Micro Security has a behavior monitoring to detect and block suspicious activities or behaviors from applications that may indicate a threat.

Gaming Security: You may utilize Trend Micro's Mute Mode feature. This feature stops less important pop ups from interrupting you while working or playing games on Windows PC. You may check the article on how to use mute mode by clicking the link below.

Stop Non-Critical Pop Ups with Trend Micro Mute Mode | Trend Micro Help Center

Regular Updates: It is generally recommended to have the latest Windows updates installed on your system. These updates often include security patches, bug fixes, and improvements to the overall performance and stability of your operating system.

Updates may briefly disrupt usage, but the security, performance, and new features they bring typically outweigh inconveniences. It's advisable to keep your system updated for a secure and optimized computing experience.

Firewall Configuration

There is no "Firewall Configuration"  in TM

seek advice and recommendations

Just be aware that TM updates its signature 10 min after boot; so, in theory , if you did not use your PC for a week, first 10 min will run with definition one week old.

This you can change it in registry, to update in first 45-90 sec after boot.

Hi @claudiubotezatu ,

It's important to note that modifying registry settings, especially for security software like Trend Micro, can have serious implications if done incorrectly. Making changes to the registry without proper knowledge and understanding of the potential consequences can lead to system instability, security vulnerabilities, and other issues.

While some users may seek to adjust firewall settings or other configurations, it's generally recommended to rely on the built-in features and settings provided by security software like Trend Micro. These programs are designed to automatically manage security settings to provide optimal protection without requiring manual intervention from users.

I wouldn't mody any registry if TM would be receptive to our requests!

So, I use my PC for 5-10 min in the morning (check emails, stock market) and 5-10 min afternoon (same)

I had the surprise to notice that TM NEVER UPDATED in 2 weeks...

Why???? because your "smart programmers" decided to update TM 10 min after boot.

So, I changed that to 60 sec in registries and now TM updates every time I turn on my PC for more than 1 min.

So simple, yet never implemented by TM

Hi @claudiubotezatu ,

If that works best for you that's not a problem. Although just a kind reminder, not everyone is equipped with the knowledge and familiarity to modify the registry of the PC that is why we do not recommend it for all users.

"Although just a kind reminder, not everyone is equipped with the knowledge and familiarity to modify the registry"

That is true, so why is TM so obstinate to maintain a 10min update after boot when most of modern PC's boot in less than 30 sec, so 1 min will be enough???

"most of modern PC's boot in less than 30 sec"

This is true for newer computers but not all have those. For older and slower computers this setting ensures that all startup items have already loaded.

Besides this automatic update settings, if you prefer, you also have the option to manually check for updates for the program prior to you using the computer.

Minimum requirement for TM is Win7 SP1; I doubt any computer running Win 7 SP1 boots in 10 min.

Beside that, TM should be designed  to initiate an update as soon as an internet connection is available.

Not after 10 min, which, theoretically can leave you without updates for weeks.

Hi @claudiubotezatu,

We would like to inform you that the latest version of Trend Micro, Trend Micro 17.8, no longer supports Windows 7. However, you can still install Trend Micro 17.7 on Windows 7 SP1. Nevertheless, we strongly recommend upgrading the operating system for optimal security.

@tm_carlo

I always said that is a bad idea having various TM employees jumping on the forum to provide answers for issue they do not fully understand.

Your answer has nothing to do with the issue at hand (TM updating 10 min after boot)

I just offered an example , saying that even Win 7 SP1 booths faster than 10 min, hence TM could update faster.

Hi @claudiubotezatu,

For the last reply, it just mentions that for our version 17.8 it isn't compatible that for Win 7 and 8.1 which was providing some information about Trend Micro system requirement for now. But we have created a new hot fix that will help with your issue.

  1. Download Hotfix here
  2. Double-click Ti_1780_win_en_ForceSN_hfb0001.
  3. Click Yes when the User Account Control window appears.
  4. Follow the prompts to install the hotfix.
  5. Restart your computer to apply the changes.

This is a temporary solution while awaiting the upcoming update.

Hope this helps.
