Game Time: Spot the Scam

Game Time: Spot the Scam

Real or Scam?

What's up, Trend Micro Community?!

Earlier this month, we introduced the first half of Spot the Scam, a new addition to The Community Game Time. To keep your thinking juices flowing, we will post mini-games, quizzes, and activities where everyone can join, play, and learn at the same time!

Now, for its second half, let us review this email. Picture yourself on your favorite couch, chillin' over the weekend, and you receive an email that your parcel delivery was rescheduled. Will you immediately open it? Will you ask yourself; is it legit or a scam?

Scam, sender is a gmail address, plus services like this one usually address people using their first name.

What's the facility's location. Where exactly did my package land, who sent it.... ect...

Ummm, that's why I use tracking.

This is a scam because 1. the email address of the sender; 2. why are they asking for the valid shipping address.

I see five suspocious aspects.  The email address is a gmail, not USPS, and three grammar errors. "to our facility" should be "at our facility", a missing "an" befoe "incorrect"  and a missing "we will" before " reschedule".

Also the link behind the "Update and reschudule" box looks nothing like a USPS address.

Scam. The Post Office doesn't handle undeliverable mail this way. If you're lucky, it will be returned to the sender. They don't try to find your correct street address, and they certainly don't track down your email.
