WIndows Update Error

Hello Support. I am trying to install Windows 10 version 1709 Fall Creators Update and I'm getting an error "Trend Internet Security 2008 needs to be uninstalled" but it is not installed. I have uninstalled the current version of Trend. and have deleted the Trend folders and have removed all Trend entries in the registry that I could find. I have installed trend and run the diagnostic tool kit and used it to remove Trend. I have run the remnant file remover. I have run disk check on the OS drive. I have restarted every time a change has been made. I have reset the Software Distribution folder. I'm now stuck. Is there a legacy registry key or file somewhere that is causing Windows to think Trend 2008 is still installed? All other software\OS functions are running fine. The only other thing I can think of is the original OS was Windows 8 home it was then upgraded to pro and then upgraded to Windows 10 pro. Any ideas\help would be much appreciated

Thank
Allan Kenny

Hello comsports and welcome to the community!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

We are already aware of this issue, let me help you on this matter.

Please try to follow the steps below carefully.

Step 1: Create a Backup of your Registry. Since the next steps is more on deleting some entries from it. You can check the link below for reference.
Creating a backup and restoring the Windows System Registry (For Home Users)
(If you are not familiar with this, please let us know or ask someone around you to give you hand with it)

Step 2: On the Registry Editor, check the registry location below:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/WindowsNT/CurrentVersion/AppCompatFlags/UpgradeMigration

Step 3: Check if there is value inside the keythat contains a location of Trend Micro file in the computer.
Step 4:  If YES, navigate to the location ofthe detected Trend Micro file and delete it.
Step 5:  If registry entry does not exist, useWindows search to search for the following keywords:
  • TAV
  • TIS
  • TISPro
Step 6: Delete any folder or installer relatedto these keywords (confirm if they are Trend Micro program related files).
Step 7: Retry Windows Update
Step 8: If the issue persists, please Contact Trend Micro Technical Support  as soon as possible.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and have a great day!

Hello Trend

Searched through the registry for the keys but found nothing. Update still not installed. Any further instructions?

Thanks

Hi comsports

Download this program:
Registrar Registry Manager 8.04
Install it.
Then uninstall TM
Reboot the do a Registry scan with this program and Delete all the things found.

Reboot again.
Then Retry Windows Update.
Hope this will do the trick.

Kind regards,
Tom
