Why are there no notifications to tell me when the VPN connection has failed???

Would love this program if it wasn't for the fact that I have to manually check whether or not the VPN is active. There are times when the VPN should be active and instead it is sitting idle unable to connect and there is no notification that I am unprotected. The whole point of having a VPN is to keep myself safe, so why not just tell me when there is an issue so that I can work on fixing it?

It doesn't need to be a full screen alert, but a persistent alert when connected to either an unsafe or listed access point while not connected to the VPN server would be nice. I pay you guys to provide a service, and I would like to be notified when this service is down for whatever reason instead of having to manually open the program every time I want to ensure that I am either initially connected or as happened tonight, where I was disconnected and unable to reconnect to the VPN without rebooting my laptop.

Sorry to hear about your experience, snrby.

Before we proceed with the troubleshooting, I would like to know what Trend Micro product are you pertaining to?

If you are using Trend Micro WiFi Protection, you can check these links for more information:

Thanks, I am talking about TM Wifi Protection VPN for PC.

Unfortunately, while the FAQ answers a couple of basic how to questions, it doesn't answer the question of why there are no notifications when a connection fails on either an unsecured or unknown wifi connection.

I have set my home connection as "unknown" so that the wifi protection vpn should automatically activate on connection, however there have been a few times when I have checked my online footprint and seen that it isn't masked. There has been no notification alerting me to the fact that I am connected to a listed "unknown" network while not connected to the TM VPN which negates a large portion of why I pay for online security.

The vpn is only on android and iphone devices it does not act as a form of protection it just changes your ISP and hides your real location.

The internet security is always on to give you protection from online threats even with the vpn turned off you are still protected.

Yeah, still doesn't protect me from an invasive inept government attempting to track every online click with second rate security keeping my data "safe" from unwarranted and malicious access.

Hi snrby,

We recommend using an antivirus program for all-around protection on your computer. Using the Trend Micro Wifi protection is another tool you can utilize to make sure you're connected to a safely protected network.

Hi Reine

Not sure how it is relevant to my issues with WiFi Protection, but I use the full suite of TM products on multiple devices. Antivirus, Password Manager and WiFi Protection.

I am still having issues with zero notification when WiFi Protect is not active when it should be while connected to Unknown WiFi, whether whitelisted or in a public setting. To top it all off, currently if there is an issue connecting to the VPN, the WiFi Protection application on my laptop doesn't inform me there is an issue connecting to the VPN, it just closes the window with zero information. On my mobile there is a persistent notification informing me that I am indeed connected to the VPN.

This is highly irritating considering this is not a cheap paid subscription service that is obviously not working correctly and definitely not offering a high grade security platform.

Hi snrby,

Apologies for the confusion, the Trend Micro Wifi Protection is programmed to have notifications even if the console isn't opened. In order to check if the notifications are working properly, can we verify if the notifications are enabled on your system?

  1. Select the Start button (Windows logo), and then select Settings.
  2. Go to System > Notifications & actions.
  3. Turn on settings for 'Get notifications from apps and other senders'

On the main console of the Trend Micro Wifi Protection, check on Settings if the option Notify me when connecting to an unsecured Wi-Fi network is enabled.

Let me know if you have further concerns.

Hi, andrewhibberd337.

Yes, you're right about the purpose of VPN and our security but we also have Trend Micro WiFi Protection that checks the safety of your Wi-Fi connection. It scans the Wi-Fi network and connects to a secured cloud VPN when security risks are detected. It works in iOS devices, Android devices, Windows computers, and Mac Computers. Here's a link for more information: Installing Trend Micro WiFi Protection
