Trouble with 2 installations ... need help desperately

I have just installed Trend Micro Maximum security (paid version) on my desktop. It didn't ask to uninstall Avast (it has on the other computers I have installed it on) and it is preventing uninstallation of Avast and won't allow Onedrive and numerous other services to start. What have I done wrong?
I am installing it on an Acer Aspire One also and it has stalled at 30% installed - any suggestions? Please help.
My son in law died on Tuesday and I'm trying to get the Acer computer set up before we leave Tasmania for Melbourne tomorrow for the funeral.

Hello there hcduff ! Thanks for posting here on the community.

If we understand you correctly, you are trying to remove the Avast Program currently installed on your computer. As per your statement, you were reporting that the Trend Micro Program is preventing the removal of the said program. Can you confirm if this is correct? Can we see a screen shot of the error that you are receiving when your are trying to remove this program?

Furthermore, we can try temporarily disabling the Trend Micro Program on your computer so we can identify if it really is the Trend Micro Program that is causing the issue. You can do that by using the Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit.

Open the Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit. Do the following depending on your Operating System:For Windows 10:
  1. Click Start > All Apps > Trend Micro Security > Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit.
For Windows 8/8.1:
  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows Windows Key+ C to open Charms bar.
  2. Click Search.
  3. On the Search box, type "Trend".
  4. Click Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit.
For Windows 7/Vista:
  1. Go to Start > All Programs >Trend Micro Titanium (version) > More Tools and Help.
  2. Click Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit.
Proceed to tab C (Uninstall), then click on Stop All Components. Once the components are stopped, kindly try removing the Avast program again from the Control Panel.

If in case this does not work, you may consider contacting AVAST support as we only have a limited knowledge on their program and we do not wish to provide any false information on how to remove that program that may lead to a more serious problem.

For now, kindly try the steps and we will be looking forward to your response with the screenshot of the error message.
