Hi, My PC recently had this trojan-type program on it: Maladiva_Download_Manager.exe...this file contained the following virus: PUA/InstallCore.IL. This was removed from my PC by a tech with another program. I wish to know, as to why my current ( updated regularly) version of Trend Micro did NOT find this virus. Please let me know your thoughts on this abberration.

Hi mmwaugh

Welcome to TM Home users Community, a public site where volunteers try to help each-other , also there are TM Employees that can give answers, that is only at working hours. I am just a volunteer!

You name it a virus, but you installed yourself with your admin permission, so TM let you install the PUA, the most of them let you uninstall it from the uninstall list.

Hope this helps.

Hi mmwaugh

Since the file has already been removed, we can't really say for sure if it was a Trojan or just a Potential Unwanted Application (PUA). But basing on the name of the detected file, it seems that it is a type of PUA.

One reason why Trend Micro did not detect is that PUAs are generally gray area applications. And usually, Trend Micro does not remove PUAs immediately unless they were proven to be malicious. To know more about PUA, you may refer to this link: Uninstalling Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUA)

Other reason why Trend Micro could have not detected it is because each antivirus programs has its own rules and policies, and Trend Micro has set its own for detecting patterns on your computer as well based on the samples that were thoroughly tested by our malware experts on Trend Micro Labs from time to time.
