I have just received an email from a hacker stating he has placed malware on my system and am being blackmailed to have it removed. Could this be a scam or why has this trojan not been picked up by Trend???

It sounds as though someone IS trying to hack you, but don't let them in.

Or go to the Trend Micro free tools and try  the free "HouseCall" program to thoroughly check your device and router. Good luck!

Hi culhane

I think it is just a scam, dont answer or click on anything in that mail, just delete it and do a full TM scan.
Hope that give a positive result.
Good luck

Kind regards,
Tom

Hi culhane and welcome to the Trend Micro Community!

Thanks for the help Tom and woodartisan55.

Yes, they are correct, it's a scam, it's just trying to convince that you have a virus or they will put a virus on your computer if you don't pay them. Keep in mind that they can only put viruses if they manage to access your computer. Do not give them that chance.

Run a full scan.

Regards,
Kree
