TrendMicro turned off Windows Defender permanently

After renewing TrendMicro and Windows Defender came up. It said Defender was turned off, that my PC was at risk and that Defender should be restarted. But it could not be restarted.

I can't really answer you but to say that yes, the same has happened with mine. I don't know if they conflict with one another, but it's been years, and I've had no problem relying on TM alone. Perhaps someone here can give both of us a more definitive answer.

Thank you for asking here! As a matter of fact, Windows Defender will be disabled automatically when installing Trend Micro Security software. This default change is to avoid conflict since Windows Defender is a Microsoft's built-in anti-virus protection and having more than one anti-virus program usually causes a conflict.

TM_Claudia - are you saying that we no longer need Windows Defender if we have Trend installed? I've had Trend for several years now and I have not received this error message in the past about Windows Defender being a conflict.

Hi jlsaddel, in behalf of TM_Claudia, you no longer need Windows Defender if you already have the Trend Micro security software installed. You can check this link out for your reference: "https://esupport.trendmicro.com/en-us/home/pages/technical-support/1061023.aspx" under the note for Microsoft.

Also, your Windows Defender might sit on your computer properly without any error in the past, but since the latest update of your Trend Micro protection, it auto-detects all third-party security software installed that might interfere with your Trend program to ensure the best security settings for you.

I will leave Windows Defender off.  I also heard of conflicts a couple years ago when I first install Trend Micro.  I haven't had any problems with Trend Micro running alone.  My feeling today is that I will leave Windows Defender off.

That's interesting because my desktop has gotten very slow on start-up and when I check my emails. I was worried that I didn't have protection and that viruses had gotten in. I have not gotten any negative results when TM gives me my monthly check-up.
