My trendmicro internet security is blocking my WD MyCloud drive inside my network. As soon as trendmicro is disabled mycloud shows under my PC asa network computer with shares.

Can you try to locate the specific location of that Network Storage device and then add it on the Trend Micro program's exception list as a website?

This works but does this make data on the MyCloud vulnerable? It is accessible from outside the router.

May I know how you were able to access your files saved on the MyCloud? Basically, this type of device has its own protection with regards to the files saved on it. This has a password protection available for every user which protects their personal cloud from unauthorized access.
Moreover, as of now, the latest version of the Trend Micro Maximum Security only supports online storage local folder such as OneDrive, GoogleDrive and Dropbox which you can include on the Folder Shield feature of your Trend Micro Security software.

I may have spoken too soon. After some initial success, the backup process has slowed down to a crawl again. I don't think it is the Trend Micro software.
I tried the WD Sync software first. It couldn't connect to the drive. Then the WD Smartware but it is extremely slow again.

BTW I put http://192.168.1.xx/* into the exception list. Is this correct? When I clicked the +Add button and pasted in the address, it gave me http://http://192.168.1.xx/* which I assumed was not correct.

Thanks, I seem to have things working now. However, I had to set up static IP address in my router for this to work.
