Trend Micro should clearly indicate whether to uninstall before installing a new serial number.

It should be clearly indicated somewhere on the TM website and on the popup that tells me my subscription is expired and offers to renew or enter a new serial number, whether it is advisable to uninstall the old version or just enter the serial number for the new one I have purchased. As it is, I have no idea which way to go.

  • Concerned about which way to go: uninstall and start new install with new serial number; or enter new serial number. As it is, I have no idea which way to go.

Hi djwhite077

Welcome to TM Home users Community, a public site where volunteers try to help each-other , also there are TM Employees that can give answers.
If you are on the latest TM version, you can just put in the new serial number, else download the latest version and install it and put in the key.

All the best for 2018.

Kind regards,
Tom

I was able to successfully install. Not knowing when I might expect a response and wanting to "get on with it", I did elect to do an uninstall first; and then I just went to the TM download link and had no problem. I guess my point was, however, that somehow, Trend Micro should clearly indicate whether it is preferable and/or necessary to do an uninstall before proceeding with a new serial number. Or so indicate whether it makes no difference at all and if simply following the prompts and entering the new serial number will just result in updating the necessary files, allowing one to thereby skip the uninstall process and the time that would take.

Hi djwhite077,

Let me explain how the renewal, changing of serial number and upgrade works.

I was able to check your previous subscription and the product version is the same with your new one. You shouldn't have reinstalled Trend Micro since the product version is just the same. To save time and energy, you can just change the serial number on your Trend Micro program.

A. If you purchase a license similar to your current one, you can just change the serial number on the Trend Micro main console.

Changing the serial number of Trend Micro Security software

B. If you will just renew your current license, you don't have to do anything since the expiry date will be automatically updated but you might want to upgrade to the latest version if you are not yet using the latest one.

C. If you purchase a license that is different from your current one, you have to reinstall a different product version.

I hope I was able to clarify things for you.

Should you have other concerns, don't hesitate to reply.

Thank you and have a great day!

This is good information. Thank you for clarifying, especially so succinctly. Maybe it would be helpful to other TM users to provide your very well written explanation on the website FAQ's. Just a suggestion to help improve the TM user experience and the website.
