Trend Micro Security Installation stuck at Now Activating

After renewing my expired TrendMicro Security 2019 for Windows and successfully downloading the software on my Dell inspiron 5720 x64 based PC with Windows 10 OS, the installation process got stuck at "Now Activating." I have had no success with Geek Squad after several hours online with them.

I have tried Option 2 from the Support article "Stuck at Now Activating window when installing Trend Micro Security" Solution ID:1104608, Last Updated:Sep. 28, 2018 9:05 PM (PST)'.  The Geek Squad did Option 3 and found no malware.  Option 4 did not work either.

I am extremely frustrated that I cannot install this software and protect my laptop.

After ending the task in Task Manager, I restarted my laptop.  When I double-click the Trend MicroScecurity icon on my desktop, it does nothing.  When I hover the mouse over the Trend icon in the tool tray, it says, "Starting your protection...please wait."

Hi dkgordon1,

I'm sorry to hear of your experience. There could be corrupted Trend Micro components which could be because of how the installer was downloaded. We must completely remove the program first before installing it again. Please follow the steps below:
  1. Run the uninstall tool.
  2. Run the remnant remover tool.
  3. Reinstall the program
Please let me know how it goes.

I followed the steps above, but unfortunately had the same results.  When I opened Chrome, I was asked to allow the Trend Chrome extension. The Privacy Scanner seems to be working.   The Receive Monthly Email Reports window popped up.  When I chose No, it froze and is not responding. The Now Activating window is still spinning it's wheel.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Tom

Hi dkgordon1,

Let's try to delete a file called corridor.dat on your computer. Please follow the steps below.

STEP 1: Disable Trend Micro Security on your computer. Click here for the instructions.
STEP 2: Navigate to C:\Program Data\Trend Micro\corridor

To go to the said location, do the following:
  • Press and hold the Windows button and letter 'R' on your keyboard both at the same time to open the Run program
  • Type: %programdata%
  • Click OK

STEP 3: Delete the corridor.dat file
STEP 4: Open Trend Micro Security then try to activate it again.

Let me know how it goes. ^_^

Regards,
Pat

Hi dkgordon1

That's strange. I think we have to endorse this to our senior engineers. I'll send you an email in a bit for the details.
