Trend Micro removing important game files from video games...

I have a problem with Trend deleting important files for certain video games on Steam and with Steam related files, detecting them as viruses. This is inconvenient at least and game-breaking at most due to the fact that Trend automatically deletes files it detects as viruses with no option to recover them without adding said program to an exception list. I would like to know if there was a way to get Trend to completely ignore entire files such as C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam and everything inside it, or a simpler method of recovering files.

Thanks

-I'm not a Trend Micro representative, but I like to give you some suggestion-

Hello,
I'm a gamer and using Steam. No issues. Strange.

Anyway, please, set the Steam folder to exception list:

Configuring Trend Micro solution

I hope this helps.

Feel free to add me on Steam, I'm Max_Slo. :)

Hi Max,
The most main-stream game for it to happen to for me was Doki Doki Literature Club, which i suspect is due to the way the game makes edits to the actual files content, causing it to be detected as a virus.
It has happend with other games as well, but they are less well known.
I have added the Steam folder to the exception list, but my issue is slightly old and i am not currently experiencing issues, i just want to know that it wont happen again.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I downloaded DDLT and it runs well. (Strange game... o.O)
I have no false positive issues, in fact I never set any exeption list.

Anyway yes, if properly exceptions are setted up, TM will ignore files.

Remember also to activate Mute before starting a game and do not use Folder Shield on games floders and save data folders (Documents, for example) in order to have games running well and save data files correctly read/write.

Of course, check if you are using up to date TM version: 12.0.1226.

Ciao.

Hi claire2701 and welcome to the Community!

It is strange that only you is encountering this kind of concern. Could you please provide a screenshot of the security logs so that we can check the type of threat? In the link below, refer to Using the Trend Micro main console option.

Viewing your Trend Micro Security Report

You will see the same screen as shown below. Click on See more details in blue and take a screenshot of it showing the  C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam file that is being detected.
