Trend micro not registering. says I have to upgrade, won't let me upgrade

Hi. For the last few days when I log on I get a message from trendmicro saying 'My protection is disabled and that I need to restart my computer'. However I have restarted several times and get the same message. This is quickly followed by a message telling me I am not connected to the internet when I am.  I also get a message telling me I need to upgrade to the latest version of trendmicro but when I try to it says I can't because I am not connected to the internet (I am). This is really weird

Hi @janayaisawesome, sorry to hear this upgrade issue. 

Upgrade issues could be due to a number of different factors. We suggest uninstalling and reinstalling Trend Micro Maximum Security to reset the program and patterns. Here's a reference doc for the steps:
