trend micro has been updating for a day

update was running for a few days. I uninstalled Trend Micro and reinstalled it. It still shows an update being installed for the last day. It doesnt appear to be working while this is going on.

Thank you for letting us know about this concern.

This issue may be a result of the program getting updates that caused conflict with the current version components. Or some components of the update might've been conflicted with some programs on your computer. 

First thing to do is to check if you have a strong internet connection that doesn't suffer interruptions while the program updates. 

If internet connection is not an issue, kindly check if the program can still be opened first by trying to restart the Trend Micro components. To do that, kindly hit on the following link.

Disable and Enable the Trend Micro program

Then check if the program opens up.

If it doesn't open, kindly check if there are conflicting programs first on the computer so we can see if they block the update. Use the link below to check.

After removing programs, you may restart your computer to see if the program will behave fine

ok, I used option 2 again and stopped all components but this time I restarted my computer and then restarted the components and it is working good so far.

there is a problem with the last update of Trend micro. I had the update download trouble and now that this problem is fixed when it downloads the update a restart is required. After that my computer doesnt work. I get a black screen with the little dots going around in a circle. It did this for an hour and had to call HP customer service . After trying stuff I had to do a system restore. Well, after all that my computer was up and TM wanted to do an update again and it went right back to not starting after the update. Another system restore and Im working again but I wont be updating Trend Micro again .

I hope so. Ive had trend micro for a few years now and it has always worked flawlessly. My subscription expires in another month and I will be renewing.

When I got up this morning I see Trend Micro having an update in progress. I just got home now and its still in progress. this is where I first started. Any other suggestions?

Hi Jim,

Can you tel me do you have a other firewall program on your PC?
Can you run "Trend micro diagnostic toolkit"  go to Tab C Stop all parts, then start all parts.
Close diagnostic toolkit. Then go to the TM Console, Configuration, Other settings, and choose there the first   option Extra security.
Restart your PC.
And i hope this will fix it!

widows defender has always run but I turned it off and followed your directions. We will see how this works. Thank you again. My wifes computer runs the same windows defender and TM and has no problems.

Hi Jim,

2 AV program's running in real-time scan is not a good idea, you may turn it on with no real-time scan and run it some times to check he found something. But than again TM does a better job.
