Trend micro freezes when scanning. It tells me it hasn't done a scan ever. How is that possible? I have had the current subscription since March. 6 months without scanning? Then it tells me to connect to the internet so it can update, hasn't updated in ten days. I am on the internet EVERY DAY. What gives? So its autoupdate does not work?  Also I cannot use certain sites like freepatentsonline (pdf) and certain uspto sites.
Windows 10, Chrome, Firefox, Toshiba Satellite, current Trend Micro (updated 10/3/2018), "etc."

Hello lhfrank99,

Welcome to the Community.

Sorry to hear about your experience. To help you with this, kindly upgrade the Trend Micro program on your computer to the latest version as we have recently released version 2019.

Please check out this article for the instructions: Upgrading Trend Micro Security software to the latest version

I hope this helps!

Regards,
Pat

Hi lhfrank99

Updating the software is not the same as upgrading it. Updating it means getting the latest security updates from our servers and installing it to your Trend Micro Security software. On the other hand, upgrading your Trend Micro security is replacing the current software in your computer with the latest version. As of now, you are using an outdated version so I highly recommend that you follow the instructions in the link provided above. This should solve the issue.

I don't like that I can't use the product that I paid you for, and to get a usable product, it may (according to trendmicro website) lack features that I paid for for the original product.

comment on upgrade:  takes an eternity just to do the "system check" and remove old software.  It is disconcerting-does it really take this long, or is the program stuck in an endless loop?  Huge waste of time sitting around  waiting to ok the next step-and of course one cannot leave the computer for fear of missing some crucial step and having to restart from square 1

Hi lhfrank99,

The system check step will make sure that the computer is free from conflicting software or remnant of the old Trend Micro Program. After it removes the old Trend Micro it will restart the computer to finalize the changes on the computer, then once restarted the installation of the new version should start automatically and proceed with the normal installation process.

Sorry for all the troubles, we'll be here to assist you until all are sorted out.
