Trend is causing high disk use. Within several minutes the disk usage is at 100% and effects any other activity on the computer. When I turn Trend off then the disk usage stops.

Thanks for letting us know this issue. Per your description, we suspect this might possibly be a hardware capacity issue. Could you please refer to below page to confirm your computer environment?
System Requirements for Trend Micro Security 10 (2016)

If there's no problem with the system requirements, we suggest you to reinstall your Trend Micro Security. Here's a reference doc for the steps:
Reinstalling the latest version of Trend Micro Security program

Please let us know how your troubleshooting goes. Thanks!

I also have this issue and restarting the computer seems to temporarily resolve the problem.

@saundrababy1960 Thank you for reporting this issue. We've checked your reply on "Suggestions for unknown malware program" discussion. We suspect the high disk usage issue is related to conflict software. If after uninstalling Byte Fence, the problem still continues, please following the above steps to reinstall your Maximum Security to check if the problem is resolved. As the support page notes, please do use the Diagnostic Toolkit to uninstall the program.

Please let us know if the solution works for you. If the problem persists, please reply here and we'll help you further.

I have tried that in the past.  I will be okay for awhile and then it starts again.  It is doing it right now.  However, I am working on an assignment that has to be turned in soon and I can't afford the time that it takes to uninstall and install again.  As I said, I have tried this two times before.    Actually, with this problem, and as much as it has slowed my system down, I will probably fail my class as I can't get very far.  I have been here all day, tried to shut down the computer to uninstall your program and lost everything that it had taken me 8 hours to do.

@saundrababy1960 Sorry that the solution didn't work for you. Here're two things that we want to confirm:
1. Did you uninstall Byte Fence? If yes, after uninstalling Byte Fence, does the high disk usage issue still occur?

2. To isolate to make sure the high disk usage issue is due to Maximum Security or not, please check if this problem continues after you temporarily disable Maximum Security. We have a support document that explains how to do this:
Disabling or enabling your Trend Micro Security software

If you didn't uninstall Byte Fence yet, please do it after disabling Trend Micro Maximum Security.

If after disabling Maximum Security, the high disk usage problem is resolved, please let us know, and we'll investigate further. Hope you can finish and turn in your work with Max Security temporarily off!

Thanks!

I uninstalled ByteFence already.  I captured a screen shot of the task manager showing the high disk usage of "coreserviceshell.exe" being used by "TrendMicro Anti Malware Solution Platform" before disabling TrendMicro.  I then took a screen shot of the task monitor after disabling.  You can also see on the left that I had all programs shut down, and the disabled Trend Micro warning.
Before, usage was 98 (I had other programs open)

After, usage is still at 50:

And now I just had to restart and the task manager says that the trend micro is working as it should.

@saundrababy1960 Thanks for providing the screenshots. We suspect your high disk usage issue is related to the following reasons:

1. Your computer doesn't meet the system requirements of Trend Micro Security.
We suspect high CPU could be due to other software consuming too much system resource. Please check that you have sufficient free memory to run Trend Micro Security. You can refer to the link below for details:
System Requirements for Trend Micro Security - Please check the part of Memory and Free Disk Space

2. Your computer has Microsoft OneDrive enabled
A new feature of Trend Micro Security 2016 is that it'll scan files in OneDrive. We have seen customer cases where OneDrive causes Trend Micro Security to consume significant amount of system resources. If you do not use Microsoft OneDrive, please remove it from Startup folder or disable other auto start settings. Or, you could manually disable it to see if CPU / disk usage is lowered. Here's a related topic in our community for your reference:
High CPU usage for Trend Micro Solution Platform

Could you check the above two items and let us know if there's any improvement? If still unsuccessful, we have to pass you to our support center for further investigation. Thank you.

No, not as yet.  As a student, I have been having a hard time finding the ability to block out some time to get this resolved.
