Trend Antivirus strage behavior

Upon a detection(even Eicar) Trend would reset IE home page to "blank". UAC to "default" and "Show  hidden files and folders" to "show"

Is this a normal behavior?


And , by the way , I tried to "chat" with a Trend, I got a white screen, I emailed, never got an answer.

To help you on your concern, as you mentioned, changing Internet Explorer home page to “about: blank” is a typically malware infection symptom. However, there is also some malware will change the wallpaper or screen saver settings, and set specific URL as browser home page. 

Through these changed settings, the PC might be getting other infections easier. Therefore, when malware is detected by Trend Micro Security, if your PC has been changed any setting by the malware, to avoid your PC stays in the modified condition, Trend Micro Security will reset those items to recommended settings I've mentioned last time.

By the way, this changing should not happen every time. It depends on what kind of malware you've gotten. If your PC is Windows7, and the wallpaper or screen saver has been changed by Trend Micro Security, you can probably restore them the setting by choosing saved “My Theme”.
  1. Right click on the desktop > Personalization
  2. You can change the wallpaper and screen saver, then click “Unsaved Theme” in “My Themes” and save the settings
  3. If the settings are changed, you can click your saved “My Theme” to restore.
