system software hub invasion

Sunday while browsing for a recipe, I received a full page warning. My computer was in danger of being hacked. I could not X out of this message. My ability to search the internet was frozen. I have been able to bypass similar warnings previously but this time task master did not work, nor did shutting down the laptop. I was hi jacked. I called the phone number to provided, system software hub. They immediately unfroze my computer and proceeded to sell be overpriced computer protection. I now have a nasty back and forth going with them. I agreed to pay for their product but have since cancelled payment. This almost seemed to be not so subtle ransomware. Not sure if it was legal. I think Trend should have prevented this. If you want to contact system software hub 1-800-839-3570. They had nothing good to say about Trend. I have removed some programing ssh installed but I have been advised to reset my computer. I may do that but I will likely need to re-install my Trend. Please respond as soon as possible.

Apologies for the inconvenience that you experienced. The one that you encountered when you are browsing your browser is clearly a tech support scam wherein some people will try to get others to buy their service to remove the message, we advise our customers to contact us instead of the phone number that is provided so that we can be the ones to help remove the message if they have a Trend Micro program subscription. More so, resetting the computer is the very least step that we will advised to our customers since it also erases their files. I would recommend clearing the browsing history of your browsers and cache, as well as clearing temporary files and temporary internet files as these are the ones that most threats reside. You can click on this link and then click "Use Disk Cleanup" to delete the contents of the Temporary Files and Temporary Internet Files.

@rv.thomas  Thanks for informing this issue. We've been seeing an increase of online technical support scams. The popped up message you're seeing is most likely not due to an infection on your Windows system, and it is usually displayed after a web link has been clicked. Please do not call the fake support number, as that is where the real scam begins. (e.g. ask for your passwords, credit card, etc.)

Though the screen messages might differ, the scam techniques are quite similar. If you were surfing on the web, you can ignore the message and close the browser. If the message popped up not from surfing the web, then we'll need to check further.
