Hi istanford58,

Thank you for posting here on our community. Apologies for the inconvenience that this may have caused you.
System Mechanic isconsidered as a conflicting software by Trend Micro. We highly recommendhaving just one antivirus program to avoid confusion for malware detection.Performance issues can likely occur on the computer such as high CPU and Memoryusage if you have two or more security software installed on the computer.

You may tryinstalling the System Mechanic after upgrading to version 12 but we can't assureyou that they will work properly.

Hope this helps.

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

I have had Trend Micro Internet security. Then I installed System Mechanic. Now Trend Micro won't update. Is there any way to fix this without uninstalling system mechanic?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Why is System Mechanic not compatible suddenly?.

Why is System Mechanic not compatible with Trend Micro when I got System Mechanic from the same disc that Trend Micro was on? In order to update TM it is telling me I need to uninstall SM because it is not compatible. When I purchased TM it came with SM on the same disc, so why not compatible?

DITTO!

I as well acquired System Mechanic as a bonus|incentive FROM Trend Micro on a bundled special deal offered via QFC, if memory serves correctly, at least five years ago.  Both app's were provided and promised lifetime subscriptions.  It was at least half the reason I pulled the trigger and decided to make the purchase, as I love, and very much rely on System Mechanic's many years of superb performance ... Hell, well before I switched at that time to Trend Micro as my antivirus software!

System Mechanic is universally rated much higher in comparative reliability and performance tests as a system maintenance app (typically #1), than Trend Mirco is as an antivirus|malware app.  I believe System Mechanic does have a version which includes an antivirus|malware component, however, the one I have|use does not include it.  Therefore ...

QUESTION:  Is it only the aforementioned anti-malware inclusive version that is in conflict with this latest update version of Trend Micro?  If so, then why not please clearly advise we clients of that fact.

If you're not certain of the answer to my question:  Why not?!  Because if the case, I'd say your IT software development folks are either irresponsible|lacking, or they need better overall tasking and direction.

Just as user 'bbm19' intimated, I also am not happy at all about the disappointment and frustration of being required to uninstall System Mechanic, having to reinstall after Trend Micro update, and then HOPE they will 'play well together'.

IN SUM:  At this point, I currently declare this situation UNACCEPTABLE, as I can't help but be forced to deem it as a breach of the agreement and contract we previously entered into.

Trend Micro, I look forward to, and will very much appreciate your prompt response and adequate advisement, and solution, to this unfortunate dilemma.

Thanks in advance for your thoughtful attention and time to this matter.

Today' the best day of my life ... and NOW you're part of it!
Craig :-)

Hi bbm19,

As I've written below, it's the PC Health Checkup feature that conflicts with System Mechanic. I will look into this "bundling deal" you mentioned but as of now, this is my best advice.

Hi Everyone,

System Mechanic conflicts with the PC Health Checkup feature of Trend Micro Security. To avoid future performance problems, we suggest to remove it.
But if you have used it together in previous years and did not encounter any problems, feel free to install it back after installation of Trend Micro Security.

I also have had system mechanic and trend micro on my computer for years and they do NOT conflict.  If you click on the security section of system mechanic it will tell you that your computer is protected by trend micro so I do not believe system mechanic is a anti-malware product.  It does do a lot of clearing your computer from junk files and things that trend micro does not do for you.  I think the conflict problem is all on trend micro and I hope trend micro takes care of this problem as I need my system mechanic and do not want to have to keep removing it every time trend micro needs to do an update.

Hi pfchipp,

Trend Micro program does clean junk and other unnecessary files on your computer. It has PC Health Checkup that not just check for unnecessary files, it also checks your computer's security vulnerabilities.

You may install the System Mechanic after upgrading the Trend Micro program.

Thank you and have a great day!

The problem also comes from Windows Creators Update as it now employs a health security scan with Windows Defender, since updating to Windows 10 Creators Update my Trend Micro has been throwing a fit, before the update to Windows 10 CU Trend Micro and System Mechanic ran side by side with no problems. As a developer myself for Windows, I believe Trend Micro has a compatibility issue with Windows 10 Creators Update (as shown in other post and answers from Trend Micro) so Trend Micros issues with Windows 10 Creators Update are spilling over to System Mechanic when in FACT it is a problem with Trend Micro. I read Trend Micros support answer under Windows 10 Creators update and they apologized for not being compatibly with Windows 10 Creators Update as yet but their programmers are working on a fix < ----- (what????? I am a developer and had the ability and did, run Windows 10 Creators Update way before release date) under that thread I gave Trend Micro a comment, when Windows Vista came out I left Norton's to TrendMicro because it supported Vista when the others were not before its release...now they are behind, I suggested to Trend Micro that maybe to fix this issue, its time to pick another company for my anti virus software........however I do think its related to Windows 10 Creators Update and NOT to System Mechanic like Trend Micro tells you......logic when followed yields the answer, AFTER the update the problems started and only than did my TrendMicro mention system mechanic...but we know it has issues with Windows 10 Creators Update (Trend Micro NOT System Mechanic) just saying..........thank you

these screen prints only makes this more confusing.  if these are screen prints of settings in Trend Micro, my screen looks nothing like this.  I still cannot find any PC Health Check in Trend Micro.

thank you Tom Emmelot but this did not help me.

Hi pfchipp,

To run the PC Health Checkup, do the following:
  1. Double-click on the Trend Micro icon on your desktop to open the main console.
  2. Click the Device tab.
Click Device

3. Click Start to begin the checkup.

Click Start

Should you have other concerns, don't hesitate to reply.

Thank you and have a great day!

so let me understand. For several years Trend Micro and System Mechanic have run effectively on my systems  side by side. Both doing different jobs. System mechanic will have a new version which includes virus protection. So Trend Micro counter with PC Health and refuse to update program unless i remove system mechanic. So the CUSTOMER loses out. I like Trend Micro but am heartilly pissed off that they make upgrades (which i have paid to though 2018)unavailable  without me juggling my other programs. This time i have uninstalled SM and updated TM then re installed SM.If this is not solved i will look at other options. I do also appreciate that TM is a non conforming W10 product now!! based on a previous email. Get your act together please, without politics. Regards Peter

Hello mazin_aust

We understand and sorry for this.

We really can't have the Trend Micro program and System Mechanic moving forward.
The article below will provide more information why you should just remove it than keeping it:
"Incompatible Software Found" appears when installing Trend Micro Security software

The Trend Micro program is being enhanced from time to time so you will get almost all that you need for your computer, not just to keep it protected, but to keep it running perfectly, performing well and maintaining the machine.

We hope for your understanding.

Have a great day!

Hi mazin_aust,

And the statement, never use 2 AV programs that run Real-time protection at the same time!

Kind regards,
Tom

Peter (Mazin_Aust?): Perhaps you could post just how you uninstalled System Mechanic (temporarily). It does not show on my list of installed programs and the uninstall.bat in that subfolder just will not work for me. I have contacted both Iolo and Trend and gotten absolutely nowhere in weeks. Thanks!

Hi dfude1,

Can you install System Mechanic  again, maybe the uninstall gets repaired.

Kind regards,
Tom

Good Idea Tom Emmelot!  I went to IOLO.com and re-downloaded my System Mechanic program (Ver. 16.5.3.1) and it finally appeared so that I could uninstall it (temporarily) via the Control Panel, to update Trend Micro Maximum Security. When I re-downloaded System Mechanic (Ver. 17.5.0.107), the source directory is now C:/ProgramFiles (x86)/Phoenix360 - not the System Mechanic subfolder (which is still there as well). It now seems that I missed a System Mechanic update, as well as the Trend update. Not sure why/what SNAFU'd, but this worked! :-)  I do hope they play well together in the future.
