Hi istanford58,

Thank you for posting here on our community. Apologies for the inconvenience that this may have caused you.
System Mechanic isconsidered as a conflicting software by Trend Micro. We highly recommendhaving just one antivirus program to avoid confusion for malware detection.Performance issues can likely occur on the computer such as high CPU and Memoryusage if you have two or more security software installed on the computer.

You may tryinstalling the System Mechanic after upgrading to version 12 but we can't assureyou that they will work properly.

Hope this helps.

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

I have had Trend Micro Internet security. Then I installed System Mechanic. Now Trend Micro won't update. Is there any way to fix this without uninstalling system mechanic?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Why is System Mechanic not compatible suddenly?.

Why is System Mechanic not compatible with Trend Micro when I got System Mechanic from the same disc that Trend Micro was on? In order to update TM it is telling me I need to uninstall SM because it is not compatible. When I purchased TM it came with SM on the same disc, so why not compatible?

DITTO!

I as well acquired System Mechanic as a bonus|incentive FROM Trend Micro on a bundled special deal offered via QFC, if memory serves correctly, at least five years ago.  Both app's were provided and promised lifetime subscriptions.  It was at least half the reason I pulled the trigger and decided to make the purchase, as I love, and very much rely on System Mechanic's many years of superb performance ... Hell, well before I switched at that time to Trend Micro as my antivirus software!

System Mechanic is universally rated much higher in comparative reliability and performance tests as a system maintenance app (typically #1), than Trend Mirco is as an antivirus|malware app.  I believe System Mechanic does have a version which includes an antivirus|malware component, however, the one I have|use does not include it.  Therefore ...

QUESTION:  Is it only the aforementioned anti-malware inclusive version that is in conflict with this latest update version of Trend Micro?  If so, then why not please clearly advise we clients of that fact.

If you're not certain of the answer to my question:  Why not?!  Because if the case, I'd say your IT software development folks are either irresponsible|lacking, or they need better overall tasking and direction.

Just as user 'bbm19' intimated, I also am not happy at all about the disappointment and frustration of being required to uninstall System Mechanic, having to reinstall after Trend Micro update, and then HOPE they will 'play well together'.

IN SUM:  At this point, I currently declare this situation UNACCEPTABLE, as I can't help but be forced to deem it as a breach of the agreement and contract we previously entered into.

Trend Micro, I look forward to, and will very much appreciate your prompt response and adequate advisement, and solution, to this unfortunate dilemma.

Thanks in advance for your thoughtful attention and time to this matter.

Today' the best day of my life ... and NOW you're part of it!
Craig :-)

Hi bbm19,

As I've written below, it's the PC Health Checkup feature that conflicts with System Mechanic. I will look into this "bundling deal" you mentioned but as of now, this is my best advice.

Hi Everyone,

System Mechanic conflicts with the PC Health Checkup feature of Trend Micro Security. To avoid future performance problems, we suggest to remove it.
But if you have used it together in previous years and did not encounter any problems, feel free to install it back after installation of Trend Micro Security.

I also have had system mechanic and trend micro on my computer for years and they do NOT conflict.  If you click on the security section of system mechanic it will tell you that your computer is protected by trend micro so I do not believe system mechanic is a anti-malware product.  It does do a lot of clearing your computer from junk files and things that trend micro does not do for you.  I think the conflict problem is all on trend micro and I hope trend micro takes care of this problem as I need my system mechanic and do not want to have to keep removing it every time trend micro needs to do an update.

Hi pfchipp,

Trend Micro program does clean junk and other unnecessary files on your computer. It has PC Health Checkup that not just check for unnecessary files, it also checks your computer's security vulnerabilities.

You may install the System Mechanic after upgrading the Trend Micro program.

Thank you and have a great day!

Hi mazin_aust,

And the statement, never use 2 AV programs that run Real-time protection at the same time!

Kind regards,
Tom

Peter (Mazin_Aust?): Perhaps you could post just how you uninstalled System Mechanic (temporarily). It does not show on my list of installed programs and the uninstall.bat in that subfolder just will not work for me. I have contacted both Iolo and Trend and gotten absolutely nowhere in weeks. Thanks!

Hi dfude1,

Can you install System Mechanic  again, maybe the uninstall gets repaired.

Kind regards,
Tom

Good Idea Tom Emmelot!  I went to IOLO.com and re-downloaded my System Mechanic program (Ver. 16.5.3.1) and it finally appeared so that I could uninstall it (temporarily) via the Control Panel, to update Trend Micro Maximum Security. When I re-downloaded System Mechanic (Ver. 17.5.0.107), the source directory is now C:/ProgramFiles (x86)/Phoenix360 - not the System Mechanic subfolder (which is still there as well). It now seems that I missed a System Mechanic update, as well as the Trend update. Not sure why/what SNAFU'd, but this worked! :-)  I do hope they play well together in the future.
