I received a pop up this morning telling me that "Byte Fence" detected malware. I don't even know where this program came from. How should I deal with it?

Thanks for asking here! For your question, it's not advisable to have more than one security program on your computer since it may result in a conflict and the programs may not work properly. Many of these 'free' anti-malware software are installed as an option during installation of other free software.

With the above said, we suggest removing Byte Fence and use Trend Micro Maximum Security only. You can refer the following steps to check if Byte Fence exist and remove it:
  1. Go to Start > Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs > Programs and Features.
  3. Select Byte Fence, then click Remove or Uninstall.
  4. Wait for the program to be uninstalled, then restart your computer.
After uninstalling Byte Fence, we suggest performing full scan to make sure your computer is not infected in any way. We have a help doc which explains how to performing a full scan:
Running a scan using Trend Micro Security software
Please follow the steps in "Performing Quick Or Full Scan" section.

Please let us know if your question is answered. If you are having difficulties performing the above steps, it would be helpful if you could provide us the exact popup or screenshots for us to help you further. Thank you!
