stuck in Update mode

Update has been in process all morning long and I need to restart my computer to uninstall a program that is no longer supported by MS. What is going on?

I can offer a solution which may work, but I don't know that it is the correct one. If I were in that situation I would do a "CTRL, ALT, DEL" (at the same time), sign out, restart the computer, and continue anew. Starting over may help. One of the Trend Micro advisors may have a different solution.
