Whats the point?
After more than 4 years of use with this current computer & having a only Norton AV program that had surely expired long ago, (that never showed any threats) and have conducted extensive all sorts of web based  activity, I purchased Trend Micro, thinking it was about time I invested in AV software, just in case

I've just finished installing TM and running a scan
0 threats found

Hi cavalry,

You can take credit for that - despite all your extensive web-based activities you remained cautious, it is doable but to others, that is a challenge. TM or any AV software can give you that layer of protection when you're not being cautious.

Whether it is useful or not depends on you. One can never be too careful but if you trust your judgment for every webpage, email or links you open, or files you download and execute, then you probably don't need an AV to make those decisions for you.

Aside from virus and web threat protection, most security suites offer other features. You can take a look at those whether you need those or not and then come up with your decision if it's worth paying for.
