Scan is on hold.

When I try to initiate a scan I get a message that a scan cannot start until security software has finished receiving an update. This has continued all day.

Sorry that you're having problem with our product. We understand that you can't complete the update for your Trend Micro Antivirus Security. Update issues could be due to a number of different factors. We suggest uninstalling first, and reinstall your Antivirus Security to reset the program and patterns.
