Renewal ripoff

I am a very long-time Trend Micro customer (at least 12 years) but I'm getting so fed up I'm thinking of switching to another highly recommended (and cheaper) service. Every year now TM offers a "discounted" price to renew that is MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE than the current price offered for new purchasers for the exact same products on your website! In my case, $83.95 instead of $59.95. It's deceitful and a blatant ripoff of your loyal existing customers! Why should I have to go through the hassle of buying a new product and reinstalling instead of simply renewing in order to get the same (somewhat less inflated) price you charge everyone else? Way to drive away loyal customers, Trend Micro!

I agree 100% with L Simon... In all areas that I subscribe to a service I find that most service providers try to pull this same disgusting tactic. I was in business for many years and I would never offer a special deal to just future customers and not my long standing present customers who may have been loyal for years.  This is an insult to one's present customers. I have made this argument forever it seems and I'm delighted to see someone else present this as a practice that should be halted. Usually companies may adjust, but I get very tired to have to present an argument each time I subscribe to a service. C Freymiller

Well it's been a week and Trend Micro has made no effort whatsoever to contact me or address the issue I raised.  But then why should Trend Micro change a deceptive practice that allows them to charge unsuspecting renewal customers an extra $24 over the going rate when most of its loyal customers probably will just click on "renew," assuming they're getting the regular rate and not going to the extra trouble of checking?  Actually Trend Micro by default pushes most of its subscribers into auto-renew, so they never realize they're being ripped off.  Shameful!

This has been going on for several years.. They also use to delete cookies in their scans, but I see no evidence of this happening now. The above description is spot on with renewals and the only way to avoid is to contact Tech and threaten to discontinue their services. I also replied to L Simon's post and received a message from someone that they would investigate. It should not take this long to investigate as the practice is very obvious.

Here's the update for you:

Auto-Renew (also known as automatic renewal) is a service offered to Trend Micro customers who purchase online. For your convenience, it is designed to automatically renew your subscription right before it is due to expire, which means that you will not have to manually perform the renewal process and a risk loss in protection at any time. Advantages of having Automatic Renewal Plan:
  • No worries in losing protection for any certain period of time.
  • A more convenient way in paying the annual subscription.
  • Latest version upgrade for free

"Latest version upgrade for free"

What do you mean by "for free"????   You have to auto-pay  your annual subscription , first.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Advantages of not having Automatic Renewal Plan:

  • No worries about being overcharged
  • You can decide when and if to buy another subscription
  • If you decide to go with a different product, you avoid hassle of asking for a refund
