Ransomware attack

I was looking at something on the internet on my Dell Laptop with Windows 10, then the screen greyed out and I got a ransomware message saying to call "Microsoft. I ran the Trend scan and it saw no threats. I had to reset my computer to an earlier date, and I also had to reload Office 365. I thought I was protected against this. I never had this problem with Kaspersky.

Hi cyclist7 and welcome to the community!

Have you checked your files if any have beenencrypted? Also, the message you got to call Microsoft, did you get this onlywhile on the internet?

If you did not see any encrypted files, then the pop-up is a Tech Support Scam, not Ransomware. The program is made to respond to sites that are already on our list of blacklisted websites. The site that you visited may not have been registered on our database yet. These sites changes from time to time so we rely on reports made by the users to help block as much websites as possible. For now, you can try resetting your browser but this will delete any saved Bookmarks or Favorites so please export these first, if any. You may refer to the link below on how to do so.

Resetting your web browser for performance andwebsite redirection issues

Also, you may call our hotline number 1-800-864-6027 from Monday toFriday, 5AM - 8PM PST so we could escalate this case to one of our Level 2engineers since your subscription is from Best Buy.

Have a good day!
