I have trendmicro max security current version 12.0.1226 with latest updates. I do not have any scheduled scans (smart or specific) yet trendmicro automatically starts a scan at random times and i am unable to find where to cancel this scan. There is no cxl in the icon pop up menu or anywhere on the home page or under settings. Why does this scan start automatically and how do i stop it and shut it off so it wont happen again.

Hello Marg and welcome to the Trend Micro Community!

The Trend Micro Security does a smart scan in this case. It checks your recent scan and will do a scan depending on how frequent you do a scan on a daily or weekly basis.

By default, your Trend Micro Security is configured to do a smart scan. You can check this link to learn more about the scan preferences on your Trend Micro Security.

Should you have further inquiry or concern, feel free to post in the community.

Have a great day! :)

Hi Marg! Just another long-term Trend Micro user here to let you know that mine does the same thing. I have no problem with it though and just continue about my normal internet using. The scan does not appear to slow down or interfere in any way with what I am doing on the 'net and I know I'm protected. Enjoy your safe internet travels!

Thank you for your super speedy replies tm_neo and woodartisan! Unfortunately the scan does 'bog' down my comp. as for the smart scan doing its thing....I do a full scan at end of every day (faithfully) and set it to shut down computer when scan is completed...so by smart scan logic it should never have to do a smart scan. is there a way to stop this smart scan when it is in progress?

footnote: I saw Solution ID:1118836 [Hotfix] Trend Micro System Tray icon stuck at "Now Scanning"
I will try this next time it happens as well:-)

Hi Marg!

You can go to the Trend Micro Program Settings > click Scheduled Scans on the left panel > untick Conduct a scheduled scan of the computer. This will disable all scheduled scans on your PC.

By the way, please do not run the hotfix that can be downloaded on our support site with Solution ID:1118836 if you do not receive the same issue as stated. Moreover, the page was last updated on Mar. 11, 2018... it's likely that the hotfix is already added on our active updates.

Have a great day! :)

Hi Marg!
Checking on your post you said you did not choose any type of Scheduled Scan, can you provide us a screenshot of it instead so that we can check what type of scan it is doing.
Please verify as well if the box for "Conduct a Scheduled Scan of the computer" is unticked. You may refer to the picture below:

Will be waiting for your response. Thank you!

Hi TM_malik. Thanks for the heads up on the hotfix. I have scheduled scans already unticked. I never run a scheduled scan. at end of day i manually run full scan from tm panel.  do you know of a way to stop that auto scan once its started? Nothing shows up on pop up to cancel and there is nothing on the main tm main panel, settings, devices ect. how do i interrupt that scan once it starts?

oh hello tm_phebs. the 'conduct a scheduled scan' is not ticked on. it is off. i have no scheduled scans(ever). the only indication that there is a scan going on is if i hover the bottom bar tm icon small pop up says now scanning. i have looked in every possible nook and cranny on what scan its doing and to somehow turn it off. but nothing is there. also when scan is done there is no indication that there might have been an update.

Thank you for the screenshots, Marg! But can you also send us a screenshot when the Trend Micro program scan is running, as advised by TM_Phebs so that we can determine what type of scan it is doing?

Thank you so much! :)
