I received a message on my computer saying my network security has been damaged. I am to call 855 469-6660 to remove all foreign connections. There is also a security report on my computer from trend micro saying i have 2 security threats. How do I know this is true and the message is not spam?

A quick search just found that the 855 code is Cambodia. As for the rest of the number, I have no idea.

I would immediately disconnect from the internet and perform a full scan on you device. maybe a rep will have better info. Good Luck!

Hi woodartisan55!

Base from your description, you seem to be encountering a technical support scam. Now the would-bescammers will make unsolicited calls to their target several times, claimingthey are technical support representatives from well-known software companies(e.g. Microsoft or security antivirus companies like Norton, McAfee or evenTrend Micro). Other methods may include advertising technical support on theweb offering to fix computer problems or sell software licenses. Theserepresentatives will try to convince users into believing that they can fixissues or malware problems and often request that you allow remote access toyour computer. Once this remote access has been established, these thirdparties have the freedom to install malware of their own or perform othermalicious activities to essentially hijack your computer and hold it for ransomunless they are paid a certain “fee” for services.

With that being said, please do not contact the number in the message and contact us instead. That way we can get the source of the scam message which might be embedded on a legitimate website then report it as scam to prevent further messages like this. You may refer to the article below for the steps to contact our support line.
