Possible malware

I received an email from my own email address to the same address. The subject consisted of a 16 digit alphanumeric string. There was an attachment of a .docm of 32KB size. The alphanumeric string did not accord with any of my software ID's. I deleted the email as being suspicious. The self to self nature causes me concern, do you have any knowledge of a malware attack using this method? F.J. Mitson
