PC and Internet Issues being caused by Trend Micro Software

For the past couple of days, I've noticed my PC and Internet to be running really slow. After playing around with the computer, I think the issue is being caused by my Trend Micro Maximum Security software.

I've tried to see if there was an update for the software available, but whenever I try to "Check for Program Updates" Trend Micro turns off!

I then get an alert saying that "Trend Micro Maximum Security is turned off" and eventually the software restarts and turns back on. Meanwhile, I have no idea if my Trend Micro software is even up to date!

The funny thing is, that when Trend Micro is actually turned off, my PC and Internet seem to be working fine.

That's how I know my computer issues are related to my Trend Micro software.

This is extremely frustrating because my PC, which has always worked fine, is now crawling. Everything takes forever to load.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Thanks!

It is a virus. I had this expérience. What you need to do is to turn iff your antivirus. Install malwarebytes and run it. After fullly scanned, retart your computer and turn you trend security on and remove malwarebytes. This worked for me.

Thanks for your reply. I do not think it is a virus, but I do think that it is a software related issue. I think it might be conflicting with another program on my PC, even though Trend Micro is the only computer security software I use.

This is not the normal behavior of the program. If you are certain that you have a stable internet connection and can connect to other websites, please perform the steps below: 
  1. Open the command prompt and input this: ping ipv6-mirror.iau.activeupdate.trendmicro.com
  2. Take note of the results; a screenshot would be appreciated. 
  3. Remove conflicting software and potentially unwanted applications. You may check this link for a list of these. 
After removing potentially unwanted applications, please check if the issue persists and let us know the results.

Hi. I'm not able to get a screenshot of the results because it goes off of my screen too quickly.

What is so confusing is that I just turned my computer on and my Trend Micro Maximum Security software never started or loaded. Now my computer is working fine. I'm not having and PC issues and I'm not having and an issue with my internet speeds crawling.

Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening? I've used Trend Micro for many years and have never experienced this problem before.

UPDATE. I didn't realize there was already a thread on this issue:

I was able to fix my problem and it turns out I wasn't the only one with this same issue.

If anyone else has Trend Micro turning on and off or constantly restarting, please read the post I just mentioned.

Also, don't bother following all of the steps

Just follow the instructions on how to completely remove your Trend Micro software, then restart your computer. Then, follow the instructions on completely removing all Trend Micro files that are on your computer and once again, restart your computer.

Finally, reinstall your correct Trend Micro software and make sure to check for any available updates.

This worked for me. I just wish customer support would know more about this problem and let us customers know how we can go about fixing it.
