no confidence

my scans always say nothing detected: hard to believe so I dont know if this is working right for the security checks. my computer is running slow and often logs me off websites saying lost server, this never used to happen. can i do something to give me confidence my security is working?

Welcome to TM Home users Community, a public site where volunteers try to help each-other , also there are TM Employees that can give answers.
My scans always say nothing detected, that means that i do a good job staying away from wrong sites an clicking on the wrong things!
About the server loosing contact is more to do with your internet provider i think or the way you are attach to the internet.

you can try the EICAR test virus (http://www.eicar.org): Use a simple text editor (like notepad.exe) and create an ASCII text file "anyName.txt.com" with the content:

X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

In the moment you save the file your anti virus suite should react. In my case the file was automatically deleted. Alternatively, you can download the EICAR test file:

http://www.eicar.org/download/eicar.com.txt

In the moment you download/open the file your anti virus suite should show some reaction.

Can I suggest you a very simple things?

1- Assuming Your protection is working good, try to check if you loose internet connecting for real (by router or settings issue, for example).  

Press and hold Windows key, then press R.
Type
ping trendmicro.com -t
A black windows appears.
You will see 'reply by....' a lot of times.

Check if, when your browser notifies you loosing connection, it is a 'real' connection issue:
reply by will be replaced by 'Timeout...', or something like this, (sorry, I don't use english Windows).
In this case I suggest you to contact your ISP representative, or techcnical support of your router/modem manufacturer.

2- Is the time of this PC correct?

3 - Try another browser.

4- It is very improbable that TM by itself prevent you from surfing. In this case, install it again, downloading it from the website in order to be sure to use the last version. 

5 - The issue is the same on other devices on the same network?

Hi jrho12 and welcome to the community.

Have you tried following the steps that they advised you to do? 

It is correct, that if the scan of your Trend Micro program shows no detection, then that means that you are free from any threat.

For your computer's degrade in performance, it is maybe running low in disk space or lots of program are running at the background at the same time. 

You can try cleaning your computer to be sure, here's some Tips to free up drive space on your PC from Microsoft. 

You can run a full scan using the Trend Micro program as well.
