This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled New System Build.

I'm building a completely new computer, and upgrading my OS from Windows XP to Windows 10. I need to install T-M onto the new computer BEFORE accessing the Internet. Program install files can be stored on an external USB HD, then installed onto the new computer as soon as it is up and running, and before accessing the Internet.

Thanks for contacting us in community! Yes, you can download an installer of Internet Security to an external storage drive and install on the new offline computer. However, Trend Micro Security won't be activated and running. You'll need to connect to the internet to enter your serial number to activate Trend Micro Security.

Thanks and please let us know if you have more questions!

Is there no way to activate, run or update without internet connection? My PC has no internet connection and I was wondering if we can download the files remotely and update via USB?

Hi gnehzihs, I'm afraid that internet connection is necessary for using Trend Micro Security product.

Even if you can use a CD or copy an installer from another computer, you still need to connect to Trend Micro server to complete the activation process. Trend Micro Security product also requests internet connection to update the latest pattern.

Thanx for your rapid response. Next question: Presently my subscription is for Trend MicroTM Internet Security 2016 for use with Windows XP. I've noticed on this forum something called 'Max Security 10', apparently for Windows 10 (which will be the OS for my new system). Will my system auto-upgrade Trend-Micro when I get online to enter my subscription registration number, or should I be downloading the 'Security 10' edition? There does not seem to be a facility to download the edition for Windows 10 (or I'm just not seeing it).
Thanx for the help!

When I downloaded (from my Account Page) the Trend-Micro program, I got something called TTi_10.0_MR_Downloader.exe , which seems to be for downloading Trend Micro Security 10 (2016). I'll use the downloader after I get the Windows 10 system online.

Sorry for the late response. Regarding to your question, I'm afraid that your system will not auto-upgrade your Maximum Security, since Maximum Security is a higher tier edition than Internet Security. Here's a page that highlights features of the different editions for your future renewal reference.

We use version 10 and 2016 interchangeably (e.g. Internet Security 10 (2016), Maximum Security 10 (2016)), and also that each edition can be installed on different Windows OS versions and not just Windows 10, that's why you weren't able to find a downloads for Windows 10 area.

I'm glad you've downloaded the installer of Trend Micro Security 10 (2016) which is definitely compatible for Windows 10. Please try installing after upgraded your OS to Windows 10 and let us know how the install and activation goes.

In addition, here's an online document for your reference:

Hi Proteus,
If you are not online working no security can work in the way it should.
You will need to download the updates for new treats. If you know that there are 800 viruses each week made to attack your computer. Windows Defender will filter a lot in combination with Trend Micro. You say you use a USB stick to transfer files from one to the other computer. That will be the leak inside the computer. Are you sure not putting up your second pc online? A router between won't cost a lot of money and is always cheaper then one installation by a professional. Search for N-Routers, which are cheap on the market.
