Here are a couple of answers to the same question: one from another long-term Trend Micro user, and another from a trend Micro tech:

Welcome to TM Home users Community, a public site where volunteers try to help each-other , also there are TM Employees that can give answers.
You can use the free version of Malwarebytes to scan, but it is never advised to use 2 realtime scanners at the same time, if it did not give any problem now it should in the future.

Kind regards,
Tom

The tech:

We understand how much you worry about your security and your device's protection.
Please be advised that running two different security programs on one PC is not recommended. Here are the reasons:

1. Running two security software on one PC causes conflicts between these twoprograms. One may disable some of the functions of the other security programand the other way around. They may also identify each other as a virus which could lead to file corruption or other conflicts and errors that make your antivirus protection less effective—or not effective at all.

2. By running two different securityprograms, one may detect a specific file as valid and one may detect it asa threat. Conflicts usually result on false detection, making your PC morevulnerable to threats.

3. Antivirus programs usually scan all the files you download from the Internet and the files and programs that are installed on your computer already. The scanning process usually take some memory and system resources from your CPU which normally should not cause slowing down your PC. But, if there are two security programs that will scan the files on your PC, both security programs will take much amount of memory from your CPU resulting to slowing down your PC.

We understand that you want to have a better protection for your devices. It has been proven that one antivirus program is better than two. If you are torn on which antivirus program should you keep on your PC, you may check online reviews and recommendations for the security programs for PC and retain the software that offers the best protection that you need.

We hope this helps. If you have further concerns, please let us know.

Most likely not!

TM has consistently 100% detection in all tests, so you do not need MBAM.

In addition MBAM will considerably slow down your PC.

Hi gwtulley,

Thanks for posting your concern here and welcome to the community!

As stated by claudiu_botezatu and woodartisan55, it is not recommended to have two antivirus programs running on your computer as they may cause conflicts with each other. Since both programs are generally "fighting" over the resources on your computer, this may result to slow PC performance and can make it even more vulnerable to threats.

Trend Micro serves as the overall protection for your computer. Rest assured, your computer is safe and sound once you've got the Trend Micro program installed.

Hope this clarifies your concern! Let me know if you have any more questions. :)
