Malware on computer not caught by Maximum Security

The following files were installed on my computer on 5/16/18:

YAHOO POWERED
PCACCELERATE PRO
WORK GROUP INC PRODUCT (IDLE BUDDY)
SSOPTION
PRUPDATER

Google identifies all of these as malware. I have Trend Micro Maximum Security installed and updated, so why didn't it catch them? I have run several scans and nothing is identified. I have tried to delete them, but they will not uninstall. How do I remove these programs?

I have an HP 23-o14 64-bit system running windows 10 with Maximum Security 2018 under full licence with all current updates.

Thank you for your attention.

Hi, nanahaw.

It's unfortunate to hear of your experience but rest assured we'll do our best to help you out.

Most of the programs you mentioned are potentially unwanted and fake anti-virus programs. Most of these programs are installed via bundling with free programs installed on the PC - if these programs are allowed by the user to have it installed, the Trend Micro program can no longer interfere with that. But don't worry those programs are just classified as grayware and it's not an actual malware - a possible attribute why most antivirus programs does not detect them - they just change some settings on your PC, especially on your browsers, to inject misleading ads and popups.

For that, we can just provide some manual removal. To uninstall the Potentially Unwanted Applications using the Control Panel, refer to the steps below:
  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows Windows Key + R keys.
  2. In the Open field, type "appwiz.cpl", then press ENTER. The "Programs and Features" window will open.
  3. Browse through the program list and uninstall any programs that you are unfamiliar with.
After that, we can go ahead and clean up your browsers' settings just in case it was configured by those programs you mentioned. You may refer on this link for the detailed instructions.

Feel free to let us know if you need more assistance or any inquiries. Kindly send a screenshot or the exact wordings if you receive any error messages.

Thank you!
