Just read this at https://blog.trendmicro.com/trendlabs-security-intelligence/rising-trend-attackers-using-lnk-files-d...

I just received an email forwarded by my boss with a zip attachment. Since she expected an answer, I need to open the file. When I unzipped the file, the folder contained 6 files of .lnk format. According to the link above, it is a file to download malware into Windows system.

My question is, is it because the .lnk files won't infect Mac system thus Trend Micro didn't detect it malicious or dangerous?

Every help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi noahvearn,

Welcome to the Trend Micro Home Users Community!

The .lnk files get created as a result of a possible virus from windows machine and it can't be opened on Mac OS X, so it can't do any harm. Even if it were malware posing as a .lnk file, it would still be Windows malware, and thus still couldn't do any harm on your Mac OS X system.
