Is there any reason Trend misro causes my computer start-up to be exceptionally slow? It also effectively hangs my computer during updates.

Hello corawl,

Welcome to the Community!

We are sorry to hear that you are encountering this issue.

The Trend Micro program should not slow down the start-up of your computer. You may check the start-up programs enabled on your computer. If you are not aware how to do it, you follow the steps below:

1. Open Task Manager. (Ctrl + Alt + Del) or right click on your taskbar and select "Task Manger".
2. Select the "Startup" tab.
3. If you don't want a specific program to start after boot, right-click on the startup item and select "Disable".

Let us know how it goes.

Also, may we know what kind of update are you referring to?

Regards,
Joemar

I have already disables everything non-essential at start-up, an it still takes an age. If I disable Trend, everything starts up normally.
It seems to download updates almost every time I start up my computer, or when I wake it up from sleep mode.
I love your program, but after 3 years of this I'm ready to look for something else unless i can fix this!

Hi corawl

Did you follow this, from TM X

Thank you for reporting this. Our team is now checking what is causing this update issue. In the meantime, please follow these steps to solve this:
  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key and the letter R and type in supporttool.exe, then hit OK. This opens the Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit.
  2. At the upper part of the window, click (C) Uninstall then click 5. Stop all components.
  3. In the same window, delete the last update installed by clicking 2. Delete Now and 3. Delete Now.
  4. Close the toolkit and restart the computer. It should automatically check for the latest update when Trend Micro starts.
For reference, the Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit should look like this:

For questions and additional assistance, please let us know.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Kind regards,
Tom

Hi corawl

I see that you're still using an outdated version of the program. Please upgrade to the latest one and see how it goes. Here's how:

Installing Trend Micro Security purchased from Best Buy for Windows and for Mac
