I have been trying without success to add my iPhone X to my protected devices.... and everytime I try it crashes.

I have ios 12 on my phone, and can download the app from the app store, but as soon as I try and activate it, it crashes.... 
I have an up to date Trend Maximum Security - with up to 5 devices.... I am currently using only 1 ( the other 2 devices are no longer working/using Trend but I don't know how to deactivate them...lol)

This is not the normal behavior of the app. However, it's possible that some of its components were corrupted due to how it was downloaded. Can you please switch your internet connection to either wi-fi or mobile data and download and activate the app again?
