The pop-up ads and suggestions are really obnoxious. How do I turn them off?

What are you using for a search engine?

Using Firefox for a browser and Google for search. But I don't think the annoying pop-ups on my screen have anything to do with browsers or search.

Firefox has a pop-up blocker. Search in your "tools" section for it.

I'm already using popup blockers - this has nothing to do with the browser, and everything to do with Trend Micro having sleazy business practices.

Perhaps it's your Trend Micro settings. I've been using them for about 6 - 8 years now and have never had that problem or any others, which is why I've stayed with them. I keep my security settings maxed out. Maybe adjusting your setting would help after a good full scan? Have you performed a check for malware, which sounds to me as if it may be the source? There is another question in here dealing with the same problem and some very good answers to it. Good luck.

@woodartisan55  Thank you for helping! Also, thank you very much for being a long-time Trend Micro product user!

@scott.lefton  Thank you for contacting us in community! For your question, if it's not browser-related, it could be due to a software installed on your PC, but we can't be sure. Could you provide some screenshots of pop-up ads and suggestions, and a bit more detail (e.g. actions taken before the pop-up), so we can understand more background before recommending a solution. Thanks!

I only switched to Trend Micro for convenience. The other anti-virus I used never had the pop ups and unwanted ads. It is not so bad on Firefox, but when I open IE a huge ad pops up in the middle of my home page and no matter what I click, it opens to something different relating to the ad. Some of the pop ups want me to renew McAfee and that is something I've never used.

Hi 1sg

Welcome to TM Home users Community, a public site where volunteers try to help each-other , also there are TM Employees that can give answers, that is only at working hours. I am just a volunteer!
I think you installed a free program and that program installed something aside like McAfee. You can uninstall the most of that programs from the  Apps and Parts window. If the browser still gets popups, look here:

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Tom

I'm with Scott on the sleazy business practices. Why can't the popup saying "Your Security Software Expires Soon" be clicked away? I have 25 days to renew and don't want to do so yet. This intrusive message that takes up a significant corner of my screen will be the reason why I uninstall and buy elsewhere.

Well answer the question,I don't want pop ups for the next 3 months. How do we disable them. I can always go elsewhere if it doesn't stop.

Hi Gccross,

Welcome to TM Home users Community, a public site where volunteers try to help each-other , also there are TM Employees that can give answers.
Here a answer of a consumer, TM Claudia, pas it to the programmers to make it like that in the future.
So don't think that this can happen in the version you are running.
So just take renewal, the problem is over, no pop ups anymore, or take a other product and wait that you get a pop up to renew!!!
That pop up is to stay clean!

Kind Regards,
Tom

It is an intrusion and harassment, besides being very poor business practice.

Hi gccross,

A possible reason why the notification appears is because the registration from your other subscription is still being detected. You may uninstall the program and perform a clean reinstall.

You may use the following tools to uninstall it.

1. Uninstalling Trend Micro Security software using the Uninstall Tool

2. Using the Trend Micro Remnant File Remover Tool

You may then use the installers found on the link below to reinstall your Trend Micro application.

Reinstalling the latest version of Trend Micro Security program

Should the same problem persists even after reinstalling, know that we have already raised this concern to our developers and a team is already working on this.
