Thanks Amir, my computer stays connected to the Internet for several days in a row. The only way I can get new updates is by clicking latest protection , it does not update automatically.

My Trend Micro Maximum Security 2017 does check for updates, it shows a "check for updates" symbol at the bottom right hand corner of the taskbar. However, if I feel like to check for updates manually I do it, however I let TMMS 2017 to do it automatically.

Hi @Amir @ahsans, thanks for helping!

Hi @ jim_tuck,thank you for asking here!

As @Amir and @ahsans mentioned Trend Micro Antivirus+ Security, by default, definitely downloads the updates automatically for you. It constantly checks online for security updates to stop new threats every 3 hours.  Here's an online doc for your reference:
Updating your Trend Micro Security software

If your Trend Micro Antivirus+ Security does not update every 3 hours when your computer stays connected to the Internet. We suggest un-instalingl and re-installing your Trend Micro Antivirus+ Security to reset the program and patterns. Please check out this article for step by step directions on how to do it:
Reinstalling the latest version of Trend Micro Security program

Please let us know how the aoto update went, and we'll assist you if you still encounter problems.

This is to everyone concerning my original question. I think I resolved my problem. My computer was set to go into sleep mode after five hours. I reconfigured it and now everything is updating as it should including a full scan at 1 AM as I had previously had it set to do.
I put the sleep mode to "never".
Thanks again
