Hello, for the past week, everytime I open my laptop, a PC, I get a Trend message that it has detected spyware: SppExtComObjHook.dll and that I didn't have to do anything, but when I checked in "details" I was directed to a Trend page, which suggested that I take further action with some downloadable tools, so I downloaded "Housecall" and "Rootkit buster" to get rid of it. They did not find anything. And I'm still getting this message every time I open the laptop. Sometimes I'm prompted to restart, and sometimes it takes 5 or 6 restarts. How do I get rid of this permanently?

Hi Janis,

Look for the file SppExtComObjHook.dll on your PC Mostly in windows/tmp, after you found it rename it to SppExtComObjHook.old , then open Notepad and type a letter save it as SppExtComObjHook.dll, and delete the other won.

Kind regards,
Tom

Hi Janis,

Perhaps this might help you? This has been mentioned in the malwarebytes forum and a research engineer mentioned something about this detection "SppExtComObjHook.dll". The detection is valid / not a false positive. HackTool.KMS is a name of a Windows cracking tool used to make Windows operating system appear as though it's a legitimate/genuine copy. -

Thank you, the technician from Trend removed it, and so far so good.  Problem seems to be resolved.
