How do I get rid of counterflix?

Yesterday afternoon I downloaded my new Trend Micro Maximum Security since my old Trend Micro Maximum Security was expiring and ever since I downloaded the new one I have a big problem with things like counterflix etc just opening pages. This must have come in when downloading the new Trend Micro. Please help me to get rid of these immediately. Thank you.

Hello @alyninos and welcome to the community.

Upon checking the Counterflix program that you mentioned, it is a Potentially Unwanted Application that is causing the behavior that you are experiencing. To remove this particular program please follow the steps by clicking on this link.

The Counterflix program may have a different name when you go to your Programs and Features list, please arrange the list by date of when the programs were installed on your computer and check the latest programs that was installed and if you see an unknown program or a program that you did not install, please click on it and remove it from your computer. After removing the program from your computer please do a Full scan using the Trend Micro program that you have.

In addition please do the following steps:
1. Open your Documents folder.
2. Click on the Address bar on top where you see "Documents".
3. Paste this location: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
4. Copy the hosts file and save it on your desktop
5. Open the hosts file on the location I mentioned using Notepad.
5. Delete the entries that doesn't have the symbol "#" and save it.
