Full Scan Slows Down PC Terribly.

I have quite a powerful PC, but whenever I run a full scan, Trend Micro slows down my PC so much. I previously used Webroot Secure Anywhere as my antivirus, and it's full scan never affected my PC the way Trend Micro does.

I'd like to recommend that the Trend Micro company try to make their program 'lighter'--that they optimize their antivirus to run very smooth and soft.

Another thing: ever since I installed Trend Micro, my PC has not been running as it once did. When I disable Trend Micro, my PC runs better.

Thank you kindly for your consideration.

Note: I still have 493 GB space left on my internal hard drive, so a full hard drive is definitely not the problem.

Hello CaptainArvaton and welcome to the Community!

Thank you for letting us know about this issue that you have encountered. Apologies for the inconvenience that this has caused you.

The Trend Micro program, just like any other software will of course, use your computer's resources in order for it to carry out the tasks it is supposed to do especially when you're running a Full Scan. Remember, Full Scan will check your entire drive so it is basically a heavy task for your computer and it will also take less than an hour or maybe even more depending on the situation. Although,if it becomes a problem, we may be able to create a workaround for it. Please follow the steps below:

STEP 1: Run the Remnant File Remover Tool
Please click here to download the tool

STEP 2: Run the Permission Tool
Please click here todownload the tool

STEP 3: Clear the Temp Folder

  • Press the Windows button on your keyboard and letter "R" both at the same time to open the Run console.
  • Once the Run Console is open, type: %temp%
  • Click OK
  • Doing that will open the "Temp" folder. Please delete all files inside that folder
STEP 4: InstallTrend Micro Maximum Security 2018
Please click here to download the installer file. Please make sure that you will use the installer file from the download link provided in this post.

I hope this helps and we'd love to hear from you soon!

Enjoy the rest ofthe week!

Hello TM_Pat!

Thank you for the reply and the help! The program doesn't seem to slow down my PC anymore (except when it does a full scan).

Thank you for your help!

Kind regards,

Hello CaptainArvaton

We are so glad that we were able to help you.

Running a full scan will really slow down your computer for a bit since it may use lots of resources in order to do it's task.

If you have concerns, questions or inquiries in the future, please do not hesitate to post again.

Thank you!

It might be a hard drive speed limit. You can use Resource Monitor to check.
Processors and RAM have been upgraded a lot in the recent years, but HDD not so much. Unless you are already using an SSD.
