Firewall Booster issue

Good morning,

I have a little problem with the Firewall Booster feature of my Trend Micro Maximum security (TMMS) realtime protection.
It all started when I installed the windows creator update on my windows 10 system.
All was working fine before, my pc and I were basking in happyness.
After installing windows 10 update, TMMS stopped working. I simply could not launch the application anymore since an important system dll has been replaced by windows update and was working as a dependancy for TMMS. So I downloaded the latest version of the antivirus and installed it.
This is were most issues started.

First concern: whenever my system downloads and installs an update (Microsoft background shady downloads), something always goes wrong when I start the system and prevents me from starting normally. I always have to struggle and fake a system crash to allow windows to start in auto-repair mode. Since there are zero troubleshooting information displayed (only a black screen and the manufracturer logo), it's really hard to tell  where the hang is.
You may argue that the logs do not prove that TMMS plays a role in the triggering factors, let's just say that my intuission leads me to believe it does.

Second concern: my online games do not load fully since the latest TMMS program update.
This is when brought me here to ask for your help.
A few selected applications have stopped loading completely as there seem to be a firewall issue blocking instances servers.
I have discussed this problem with Grinding Gear Games and Blizzard Entertainment support services since this does not affect all applications but only some of them. After some basic verifications, we identifed that TMMS was blocking my access.
In order to play these games, I have to close TMMS, start the game, login, access the instance servers and then start TMMS again. Only then it works.
This has been a work-around for some time, but I would like to resolve this and avoid putting my system at risk when starting applications.

How can I configure the Firewall booster to behave as it did before the latest program update?
I have tried to uncheck the option "enable firewall booster", just to see if it works better but no, I have to close TMMS completely.

Thanks for your help,
Laeti

Hi, @laeti!

Thank you for your post and welcome to the community!

We apologize for the inconvenience this has brought you, but rest assured that we will assist you with your concern.

Regarding your first concern, as of now we are not sure if the Trend Micro program is the cause of the system issues since these occurred after installing the Creator's Update. However, you mentioned that you reinstalled the Trend Micro program to the latest version because it stopped working after installing the Creator's Update, and this might have been the cause of the succeeding issues that took place.

For now, we recommend that you perform a clean reinstall of the Trend Micro program using the tools and steps provided below. It's possible that the reinstall you performed did not properly remove corrupted remnants of the software.

STEP 1: Uninstalling via the Diagnostic Toolkit
  1. Open the Run window (Windows Key + R).
  2. Type supporttool.exe and click OK.
  3. Go to the (C) Uninstall tab.
  4. Click on Uninstall Software and wait for the program to finish uninstalling
  5. Restart your computer if necessary.
STEP 2: Run the Remnant Remover Tool
  1. Download and run the removal tool below:
STEP 3: Run the Permission Tool
  1. Download and run the permission tool below:
Restart your computer after running each of the tools.

STEP 4: Reinstall Maximum Security

  1. Use the link below to reinstall Maximum Security:
Restart your computer if necessary.

The reinstall should have refreshed the settings of the Trend Micro program and you don't need to configure the Firewall Booster at this stage for now. Please make sure that the Trend Micro program is running and indicates "Protected" in the main console, then try running your games again; this is in regards to your second concern. You may also check if your operating system is still encountering issues (as mentioned in your first concern).

Please inform us if this resolved your issue.

Thank you and have a great day!

Thank you Nicole for your quick answer.
I have been trying this afternoon to download the necessary files but unfortunately, Ti_110_win_en_Tool_TMRemnantFileRemoveTool_hfb0001.exe always fails to download. A first part of 2062 kb downloads, and then it stops and times-out.
I'll try downloading again tomorrow morning.
