Extensive run time for newly installed Release 12.1 on my Dell Inspiron laptop

Extensive run time for release 12.1. Trend Micro just upgraded my software from 11.x to new release (12.1). I then had it scheduled and it ran beginning at 12:02. However, it ran for over 1 hour and 10 minutes. Why so long? This is almost an unacceptable amount of time. It was the only application that was running. What can be done to speed up the process???  This is at least 3-4 times more run time than for the prior release.

Hi golferrickj,

Can you tell us the Scan type you used?
If it is a full scan, that's normal i think depends on how-many drives you scan and drive type and size.

Kind regards,
Tom

Thanks Tom for the input.  My concern is with the length of time that it takes to run the "Full" scan after installing the 12.0 version.  I have set up TM to run automatically against my hard drive only once per week.  Under the previous 11.1 version the full scan was running for 15 to 20 minutes for completing the full scan.  After replacing 11.1 with 12.0 this morning, I again ran the full scan against the hard drive (nothing was changed regarding what was scanned other than any changes/additions made by installing TM 12.0).  It took over 1 hour and 10 minutes to run the "same" scan with scheduled scan with version 12.1.  That is a large discrepancy (almost an hour additional time to run the scan under 12.0.     -Rick James

Hello Tom Emmelot and thank you for that insight.

Hi golferrickj and welcome to our community!

Thank you for posting your concern here and let me help you with this.

Basically, the run time for the automatic upgrade depends on different factors such as your system processor and the internet connection where your device is connected .

Also, the reason why it is taking longer as compared to doing a new installation is because of the fact that the installer file of the latest version is still deleting the entire files from the outdated version to ensure that there will be no remnant files or corrupted files when the installation process for the latest program starts. More so, the installer for the latest version of the Trend Micro program is checking if your system is free from conflicting software that may hinder the program to properly run on your computer.

In addition, if you are referring to the scan run time, it actually depends on the scan type that you have chosen. With this, may I know the scan type that you run? Also, was it stuck on a specific file? If yes, can you provide us the exact name of the file were the scan seems to hang? Regarding the question of Tom, may I know the number of drives and the sizes of those on your system?

We will be waiting for your reply.

Thank you very much and have a great day!

Hi Rick,

To know if it is slower, you must do this again in replay what the TM RalphyT suggest.
Like to here your result.

Kind regards,
Tom

Hi.  Rick James here with a follow-up on my prior issue of extended run times for Release 12.0 of Trend Micro.  I am new at this practice with a user community so please bear with me.  I ran another test of a full scan of Trend Micro 12.0 with discouraging results.  It took almost 1 1/2 hours to complete the full scan.  I have documented the process/results.  What is the best way to include/attach the results that I have documented.  I have created a Word document of those results that also includes the particulars of my hardware/software.  Is there a way to attach this document or pull it into this conversation?

More comments especially to answer TM Ralphy questions.  Below are specifics for my hardware/software.  The only drive that is being scanned is the hard drive, there is no disk in the optical drive.  The only active apps are TM and Task Manager.  Here are system specifics.

Dell Inspiron 5720 with Microsoft Windows10 Home(64-bit). CPU is Intel® CoreTMi3-3110M at 2.40GHz.  2 Cores with 6.00 GB memory (4GB + 2GB) and Page Files total size of 960.00 MB.  Hard drive:Seagate 750GB (ST750LM022 HN-M750MBB), 698.6 GB, Cache 16 MB, 613.08 GB free of 683.96 GB.  Plus Optical Drive HL-DT-STDVD+_RW GT60N

Trend Micro Full Scan on 10/26/2017 ( 2 apps running: Trend Micro and Task Manager).  I have constructed a table of progress thru the Full scan with % complete, timing, and quantity of files as well as completion activities like duplicate files, unneeded files, no threats found, optimization level = excellent.

HELP!!!

I think your system spec answers the question.
Mine would take exponentially longer. Having a 6TB WD-Green full of pictures, music, sheets, and videos doesn't help.

PS: Your memory is not balanced, 4GB + 2GB would not produce 6GB. It would be different if you are using 3 sticks of 2GB though, that would produce 6GB.

Hello golferrickj,

May we know the total storage capacity of the hard drive that you have on your computer please?

In addition. You can use a snipping tool if you are using a Windows 7 operating system to take a picture of the information that you gathered and post it here in this community. You can upload the picture by clicking the camera icon then you can select the pictures for you to upload it here.

I hope this helps, we will wait for your response together with the pictures.

Thank you and have a great day!

My laptop, full of games take up to 1hour 30minutes to a full scan using Antivirus+ (using deep heuristic and scanning all files).
This is pretty a good result.

Using my previous AV software it takes up to 3/4 hours...

I think that an AV, to take its job in a good way, requires a certain amount of time.

Schedule a Deep Scan in night time when you do not use the PC and select 'Shutdown PC when scan is completed' is a good option.

Sorry for my English... :)

Hi @Max Slo,

Thanks for your suggestion! Appreciate it.

Hi golferrickj,

May we also verify if the full scan still takes up to more than an hour even if it is the second time you ran the scan within 24 hours?
If so, may we also ask if there if the activities on your Task Manager (Disk, Memory. etc) if it goes to 100% while Trend Micro is running a Full Manual Scan?

We'll wait for your updates! Thanks for your patience.
