in 2013 I installed Trend Micro Titaniium on my Mac running OSX 10.6.8. My subscription is expired, and I can't install newer versions since I'm still running 10.6.8 but I can't figure out how to remove the icon from my menu bar (Command and dragging doesn't work) or stop getting messages that my subscription has expired. There's no Trend Micro folder or application in my Application folder. There's a Trend MIcro folder in my System Library, but if I try opening it, I get the error message "The folder “TrendMicro” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents." It's also shown as having a size of zero kB. Should I delete this folder? What else should I do?

Hi paul.epton and Welcome to the Community!

Thank you for bringing this to our concern. for this there might be remnants of the Trend Micro program or the Trend Micro program is still on the computer and not completely removed. What I can recommend is to uninstall the program proplerly.

For instructions just click the link below.

no installer, uninstaller, or diagnostic toolkit still on my computer, as least as far as Spotlight can tell.  Downloaded the installer, but when I tried to install, got error message that it requires OSX 10.7 or higher, but I've got OSX 10.6.8.

Hi paul.epton,

Since you cannot see the uninstall tool as well as the Diagnostic Toolkit, kindly follow the steps below to uninstall Trend micro.

1. Download the Trend Micro installer.
Trend Micro Installer for Mac

2. Open the installer file.

3. Open the "User Support" folder.

4. Run the uninstall tool or the Diagnostic Toolkit there.

As additional information regarding your operating system, you need to upgrade your MacOS version to El Capitan or higher in order for you to install the latest version of Trend Micro.

Should you have other concerns, don't hesitate to reply.

Thank you and have a great day!

Looks like this is the same installer that I found by following the original directions - needs OSX 10.7.  I originally purchased Titanium in May, 2013.  When I tried to renew in April, 2014, this is similar to the problem that I had - the new version wouldn't work.  But maybe I just solved it?  I did discover some Trend Micro files in my system library under application support, which I've moved to the trash.  I also realized that the menu bar icon seemingly allowed me to shut down Trend Micro Titanium despite the fact I haven't had an active subscription for several years.  When I clicked on that option, the menu bar icon disappeared - have I just not tried that in the last 3 years???  I restarted my computer, and no icon or expiration warning.  I'll have wait a while to see if I get the expiration warning again, which has appeared seemingly randomly, or if I'm finally rid of the problem.

Hi paul.epton,

I asked you to download the installer again because I need you to access the "User Support" folder which you can see once you open the installer file. Inside the "User Support" folder, you will be able to see either the uninstall tool or the Diagnostic Toolkit that you can use to remove the Trend Micro program.

Should you have other concerns, don't hesitate to reply.

Thank you and have a great day!

Hello, TM_Shei - Diagnostic Toolkit wouldn't open, saying "check with developer to see if your version of OSX will support," and most other files in User Support specifically refer to the 10.6.8 problem.  No surprise there.  Uninstaller says that the software isn't installed, so it can't be removed, but I suspect it's looking for the 10.7+ version, which I never had.  In any case, icon is still gone, so maybe I'm done.

Hello paul.epton,

You can just send a reply on this thread if the issue occurred again. But for now, you can just check all the files and folders on your computer  to check if you can see any relevant files for our program.

Thank you so much and have a great day!
