excessive use of resource

My PC frequently grinds to a halt and the main culprit seems to be Trend Micro; I have already ended TmDrMem and that reduced the pressure on the CPU that was running at over 80% but memory is still  running at that rate and disk usage is 99-100%!! But there is little to show what is eating up the disc usage.
Have you any advice please?

Hello csckni1 ! Welcome to the community!

We understand that your computer is having performance issues and as we can see on the screenshot seems to be occupying all the resources (Disk Usage at 99%). We can isolate this and check if it is the Trend Micro Program that is causing this problem.

One step that we can do is to temporarily disable the Trend Micro program and its components. You can do that by opening the Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit that is installed along the Trend Micro Program that you are using. You can follow this steps to pull up the tool.

Click Start > All Apps > Trend Micro Security > Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit.

The Diagnostic toolkit should look like this.
Once the toolkit is open, proceed to Tab C (Uninstall) and then hit the Stop All Components button. Take note that this will turn of your protection so make sure to avoid unnecessary tasks while performing this isolation. You can enable the protection back again by simply clicking on the Start All Components button.

Try comparing the performance of your computer after disabling the Trend Micro Program. You can also check for the Disk Usage.

If the Disk Usage has been reduced or if your computer performed better with the Trend Micro Program disabled, consider doing a Malware check by running the HouseCall tool that is available to download for free. This will ensure that there are no Malware infection is present on your computer.

We can also check if there are conflicting programs that you might have installed on your computer before this issue happened. Consider visiting this page and check if there is an Application installed on your computer within this list:

Conflicting Programs

One last thing that we can see that this problem is that the Trend Micro Program installed on your computer was corrupted due to a failed Update. With this, we can easily resolve this by reinstalling the Trend Micro Program. You can Uninstall it first from the Diagnotic Toolkit then run the Remnant file Remover tool to ensure that there are no remnants of the Trend Micro Program that will be conflicting with the new installation that you will be doing.

You can then download the latest version of the Trend Micro Program on our Support Page. Click on this link for the Installation guide.
