Hi, I've had this issue for a long time.
Its not really having an effect on my desktop PC's but I have trend internet security installed on my Surface 3 pro and its becoming a pain.
Trend will download updates over night. that I have no issues with, infact its great, my surface is asleep well connected standby and it will download because trend starts doing stuff.

This is the bit that annoys me.
After it updates, pretty fast.
It then goes on to carry out a not so quick scan of the system... but not a full scan...

It took nearly 1hr and 20mins to complete the 'update' process...
This is all fine and dandy, if you have the power or the time to handle it.
It eats over 50% of my power, puts my procesor into 'boost' mode, and obviously kicks the fan into action.

I need some way to turn off the scan after updates.
If i reboot the surface after an update it still kicks in.

Its pretty embarasing when your at work too...
Your sitting there with your boss, showing something new.
The updater kicks in because it downloaded stuff.
It then goes on to do a big scan, and my boss looks at me like my surface is about to explode and the progams i'm using slow down...

I'm starting to get to the point where I'm going to uninstall trend from my surface and not renew the 2nd 3 PC licence I pay for it.

I've used trend for nearly going on 16yrs or more and this version has been the most issue prone one i've had.
No update scheduling, so when I'm connected to my works WiFi it downloads stuff.
It does not detect i'm on battery and does heavy duty stuff.

Need update scheduling back and also the ability to say
'Hey i'm a bit more trusting of the fact i've not installed any of the naughty stuff on my pc you found since the last update, dont bother to scan"

And yes i've spoke to tech support via email about this.
All i got back was basicly
"Sorry for your issues, we will take your suggestions under advisment.
Updating your antivirus is important as it protects you from new threats... etc etc"
I understand that, but sometimes doing a scan of a users pc as soon as is not suitable...
My surface has enough power to last me all day...
Except when I get an update....
I get an update and my powers gone within 2hrs..
I've actually started carrying my power supply with me..
and boy is it embarassing asking someone if you can use their power outlet because your tablets running out of power...

Official Response
Hi Alan,

Thank you for contacting us in Community and clarifying your concern. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused. As the support engineer mentioned on email reply before, currently Trend Micro Security product doesn't have a configurable update setting.

However, it does have a setting for users to configure a Scheduled Scan. Here's a reference doc for the steps to change the time of your Scan: Stopping the daily scan of Trend Micro Security - Please set a specific schedule for the preferred day and time. (i.e. every Sunday morning)

Hope it helps!
