I am operating with Windows 10. I am having some problems and feel they are from "desktop.ini" Why doesn't my Trend Micro antivirus software detect the problem and correct it. I have read a lot about this Trojan Horse and want to confirm that my computer in infected.

Thank you

Hello slsapp1 and welcome to the community!

Thanks for asking here. Let me help you on this matter.

Just to inform you, the desktop.ini file  is a default hidden file on your computer used to store information about the arrangement of your folder. Essentially, if the layout or settings for a folder are changed, a desktop.ini file is automatically generated to save those changes.

You can try to run a scan first using your Trend Micro software to check if you are infected or not. You can also try to use the tools below for added security:

  1. ATTK Online Scanner (64-bit, 32-bit)
  2. Using the Trend Micro Rootkit Buster for Home Users
I hope this helps.

If you need further assistance from us regarding this issue, you can post a reply here. You can also attach screen shots of the issue so we can analyze it further.

Thank you and have a great day!

Hi, slsapp1. If there are no threats detected after running the Trend Micro Anti-Threat Toolkit, you can be sure that your PC is not infected in any way and "desktop.ini" is not a malicious file. What kind of problems are you experiencing with your PC now? Kindly be specific.

Warm Regards....
